Mini Project: Refurbish Bench

One of the few key pieces I want my room to have is a bench. I don't want a chair in my room; it will eat up a lot of space and it won't work with the layout that I want. At the same time, I don't want to sit on my bed with dirty clothes on. A padded bench would be my best option--a cream tufted bench, in fact.

I initially wanted to have it done completely from scratch. My dad knows of a furniture maker who could do that for me. But while going through some stuff a few hours ago, I found this beat up old bench lying around in the house.

A bench I'd like refurbished. It'll be good as new! on Twitpic

The bench is part of a dresser that my parents still use, sans this. It used to have a weave, locally known as a solihiya, that served as a cushion. They don't do benches like this anymore. I love the stems, I think they're gorgeous.

This bench is a fixer-upper. It needs to be sanded, have a broken panel fixed, given a fresh coat of varnish or beeswax and have a tufted cream padding added.
