Boudoir

The image below reflects my desired color palette for my room, which I now lovingly call Boudoir Zen.

Color by COLOURlovers

I've installed yellow contact paper inside the walls and shelves of my built in cabinet, and what a difference it makes! It looks much brighter now. I just need to work on the rest of the walls and it'll no doubt reflect more of that sunny goodness pretty soon.

As much as I want to share the photos, they're not perfect yet. I'm doing this as practice for when I actually do the walls and shelves of the main built in cabinet I will have made soon.

Lemon Yellow

I was thinking about the color palette for my room. I've been toying with a lot of color themes already. I thought of dark wood & cream. Originally, I thought of creating a purple zen room. But I've since chucked that plan out.

Now, I'm seriously toying with lemon yellow.

99 Square Feet of Living Space

Yes, that's how small my room is. After I have the cabinet made, I'll have 90 square feet left.

Talking with my Contractor

I finally got to talk to my contractor, who also happens to be a furniture maker. I gave him my cabinet layout sketches and showed him some photos I took of my room. He says he can start work in about 2 to 3 weeks. In the meantime, he'll give me a price quote. He just needs to get my room measurements.

So, I came up with this:

Been working on it the whole afternoon.

Furniture Project: Wall Mirror and Cream Tufted Bench

I have three key pieces in mind for my room project: (1.) Bed, (2.) Wall Mirror, and (3.) Cream Tufted Bench. While I am still unsure on how to go about the bed I'd like to have refurbished--yes, I seem to be on the road to furniture refurbishing, I do have a clear idea of how I want my other two key pieces to look like.

Cream Tufted Bench

You've seen the before photos of the bench I'd like to refurbish--although mine would seem more like a "stool" compared to this photo. I initially wanted a bench that could double as a trunk. I changed my mind once I saw our old bench. I'd like to keep the structure, but add in a cream tufted cushion, similar to the one on this photo. I'll keep the padding to about 3.5 inches max, just to keep it comfortable for me.

There's just something about tufting that appeals to me right now.

Wall Mirror

I want a full length mirror with frames similar to this. I'll probably keep mine about 4 feet high and 1.5 feet wide. I am in love with the frame. It's a good thing I know somebody who can replicate this.

I'm really excited about this project. There are still small details that I am unsure of, like the wood color and treatment I want. More on that in the succeeding blogs. Right now, I just need to talk to the contractor, and I'm hoping we can start work by next week!

Mini Project: Refurbish Bench

One of the few key pieces I want my room to have is a bench. I don't want a chair in my room; it will eat up a lot of space and it won't work with the layout that I want. At the same time, I don't want to sit on my bed with dirty clothes on. A padded bench would be my best option--a cream tufted bench, in fact.

I initially wanted to have it done completely from scratch. My dad knows of a furniture maker who could do that for me. But while going through some stuff a few hours ago, I found this beat up old bench lying around in the house.

A bench I'd like refurbished. It'll be good as new! on Twitpic

The bench is part of a dresser that my parents still use, sans this. It used to have a weave, locally known as a solihiya, that served as a cushion. They don't do benches like this anymore. I love the stems, I think they're gorgeous.

This bench is a fixer-upper. It needs to be sanded, have a broken panel fixed, given a fresh coat of varnish or beeswax and have a tufted cream padding added.
